Issue of keeping a dog in the home!

I have noticed lately that many Muslims are unaware of the rulings of keeping a dog in the house. First of all, there is a scientific reason for which backs up the reason we should not keep dogs. The tapeworm grows to the full size in the tonsils of dogs, and causes chronic diseases.
SubhanAllah, the Prophet knew this 1400 yrs ago, which is why it is not allowed in the homes. There is a hadith which states :

Aishah (RA) said:

"Jibreel (Gabriel) promised to come to the Prophet at a certain time. That time came and went, and he did not come. The Prophet was holding a stick in his hand, which he threw aside, saying, 'Allah does not break His promise and neither do His messengers.' Then he turned around and saw a puppy underneath his bed. He said, 'When did this dog get in?' I said, 'By Allah, I did not even notice it. He gave orders that it should be taken out, and it was removed. Then Jibreel came to him, and the messenger of Allah said, 'You promised to come and I was waiting for you, but you did not come.' He gave orders that it should be taken out, and it was removed. He said, 'The dog that was in your house prevented me. We do not enter a house where there is a dog or image." (Muslim, 14/81, Kitaab al-Libaas waz-Zeenah,baab tahreem tasweer al-hayawaan).

Abu Talhah (RA) said that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:

"The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or an image". (Ibid, 743).

The hadith of Ibn 'Umar (RA) stated that " I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say:

'Whoever keeps a dog, unless it is a dog for hunting or herding livestock, his reward will decrease by two qiraats every day.'" (Bukhari and Muslim).

Therefore, keeping dogs just for pleasure is not allowed in Islam. We should forward that pleasure to our families and friends, who really deserve it, and recieve plenty of rewards inshAllah!
